The founder of the Grove City OH, William F. Breck, originally bought the land as farmland. Initially it was comprised of 15 acres, but he later on another 300 acres to his property claims.

This change helped Breck realize that what is now modern-day Grove City could be a major thoroughfare to the capital. He envisioned a new village with a school, church, stores, and everything else a small place would need.

By 1853 the locale was home to approximately 50 residents and was well on its way to become a self-sufficient community. As time passed, more important roads were built through the area, which eventually turned the farmlands into business offices.
