Founded in 1815 as Jacksonville, the area’s name quickly changed to Pickerington OH. By 1827, the local residents voted to change the name to tribute the founder of the town: Abraham Pickering.

In 1865, this town was home to 150 residents and by 1881 it was incorporated as a Village. 1879 brought the first train to Pickerington OH, and soon, its local depot also opened up.

Since then, Pickerington took things slow, as its next big growth spurt happened in 1968 with the construction of the interstate. From then on, Pickerington was on its way towards earning its status of a city, which it did in 1991 when its population crossed the 5000 mark.
